b'Commercial - in - Confidence4HISTORYOriginallyconceivedbyKennethGillam,an AustralianWorldWarIIVeteranwhofought inthedesertsofTobrukandinthejungles ofNewGuinea,hecombinedhisbattlefield experiences and skills as a signaller to build a prototype Automatic Target Apparatus in 1954 and lodged a patent on the 2nd of September 1959.Under the newly formed company, Australasian TrainingAids(ATA),Kensinventionevolved tobecometheDisappearingAutomatic RetaliatoryTarget(DART).Partneringwith electrical contractor and shooting enthusiast, Lindsay Knight, the two men introduced a variety of features resulting in the DART concept being expanded to become a complete live fire training system.The soldier and inventor Ken Gillam eventually relinquished his share of ATA at a time where the company needed to expand under the entrepreneurial leadership of Lindsay Knight to deliver an Australian led revolution of live fire training to the rest of the world. Overtime,thebusinessevolvedtoeventuallybecome Australian TargetSystems(ATS) Pty Ltd in 2002. Most notably during this new era, a strategic partnership with Polytronic, a Swiss based company was formed, enabling ATS to expand its global reach resulting in the delivery of the worlds largest range project based in the United Arab Emirates and the worlds most advanced indoor range complex in Singapore.PHILOSOPHYTodays ATS team hold the same core values, hands-on experience and innovative philosophy espoused by its ATA forebears.
